The Great American Steakout “American Grill-ffiti” is scheduled for September 28, 2017 at La Hacienda Event Center located at 12600 TX-191, Midland.  This annual event is one of the largest fund raisers that support the Sponsorship Program at the Permian Basin Rehab Center.  The Sponsorship Program is a financial assistance program designed to help those who are uninsured, underinsured or cannot afford therapy services. All proceeds raised at this fun event are used for direct therapy services and equipment for our patients and help support our Developmental Clinic and Cleft Palate Clinic.

The PBRC is the only bilingual, outpatient pediatric and adult rehabilitation facility that provides physical, occupational, speech-language therapy, and audiology services in the same location.  The PBRC provides therapy to patients from 34 counties in the Permian Basin area.  The Center experienced a 20% increase in therapy sessions provided at the Permian Basin Rehabilitation Center since 2016.

For 24 years Bobby and Leona Cox from the Bobby Cox Companies have donated the steaks for the Great American Steakout.  The number of steaks donated has increased from 100 the first year of Steakout to over 1,000 in the last few years.  We appreciate the generosity and longtime support of Bobby and Leona Cox and the incredible staff of the Bobby Cox Companies. Carlos Hernandez, Vice President of Operations for the Bobby Cox Companies, and Joe Luera, Catering Director,  have been an integral part of the success of the Steakout.  We appreciate their years of dedication and hard work that have contributed to helping us raise the funds to support our patients.

Our 18 dedicated grilling teams volunteer to grill the delicious and succulent steaks donated by Bobby and Leona Cox.  The cooking teams compete against one another to win the title of “Grillin’ Champion” or “Best Appetizer Champion.”   There is great anticipation as the teams prepare the steaks and all their special appetizers.  Each grilling team is encouraged to prepare one steak and their special appetizers for the judging competition.   The winning teams will be recognized as the “Grillin’ Champion of 2017” and “Best Appetizer Champ.”  Winners will receive a prestigious trophy and be featured next year on the 2018 Steakout promotional material.

As the Grillin’ Teams prepare the steaks and appetizers, those in attendance can enjoy the live music and entertainment from “Current Nine,” a local band that has a great sound.  Guests are encouraged to kick back, enjoy the music, buy the winning raffle ticket, and do a little shopping at our silent auction!

Jay Hendricks and Tatum Hubbard from CBS7 have kindly agreed to host the Great American Steakout and Jimmy Goates, a great friend of the Center,  has graciously agreed to be our auctioneer this year. The live auction is one of the focal points of the Great American Steakout.  Jimmy will be sure to bring his special flair to the auction, helping us raise much needed funds to ensure we maintain our mission of providing quality therapy to our community.   Some of the great items available during the live auction are a Dallas Cowboys Luxury Suite for four people, a beautiful 18kt yellow gold and sterling silver prism ring with an antique cushion cut blue topaz faceted stone donated by Sam L. Majors Fifth Generation Jewelers, and a fun fishing trip for four at the SWC Sportsman Lodge off the coast of Louisiana.   Everyone has a chance to go home with something new from the live and silent auctions.

One of the highlights of the Great American Steakout is the car raffle.  After a two year hiatus, the car is back due to popular demand!  This year we are giving away a 2017 red Mustang GT Coupe V8 from Rogers Ford.  The Mustang will be at the Steakout so you can take a closer look.  You need not be present to win, but you will have a lot more fun if you are there.  The raffle tickets are available for $100 each.  Tax, title, and license are included which makes the win even sweeter.

Another popular raffle item is our gun raffle.  RK Pump & Supply sponsored a one-of-a-kind custom gun for the Steakout this year. The custom .338 Lapua Magnum with Nightforce scope raffle tickets are only $20 each.  After the live auction, Jay and Tatum will draw for the winning tickets for the Mustang and the Custom .338 Lapua Magnum. During this great night of fun with your friends you are making a difference in people’s lives. The patients at the Rehab Center benefit from all the proceeds. The Steakout is a wonderful evening to share with friends and learn about the role PBRC plays in our community, but, more importantly, it is a party with a purpose.

The funds raised from the Great American Steakout benefit our patients and our ability to provide the therapy they need and deserve.  The Permian Basin Rehab Center has faced the challenges of decreased Medicaid reimbursement for pediatric therapy services for our patients since last fall. Unfortunately, in September, the State of Texas has proposed additional cuts in Medicaid reimbursement for children who receive therapy services.

Currently the PBRC loses $29.49 for every therapy session provided due to Medicaid cuts. We anticipate this reduction in funds will impact our children with disabilities and special needs dramatically.  Reimbursements for comprehensive therapy services are insufficient to cover the costs of therapy, resulting in multiple for-profit therapy providers to exit the market.  This has caused an increase in demand for therapy services that the Permian Basin Rehabilitation Center provides.  Community support is needed to ensure that we are able to continue to provide therapy services to children who depend on us.   Last year we saw a 22% increase in patients that came to the Center for help.

We’ve been serving our community since 1953, and despite difficult healthcare challenges, we plan on continuing to serve those who are in need of our services.  Unlike other facilities that have not been able to remain open due to reduced reimbursements, healthcare regulations, and denials of service, we are fortunate to have the loyal support from our donors. Because of your generosity we will continue our mission….

To make life better for our patients, their families, and our community by providing high quality and compassionate therapy services.
